Evaluating My GAME Plan Progress

When I first started this whole GAME plan I think I put more on my plate then my stomach could hold. I had big ideas but I don't think I thought of what could really happen in the time given to complete the goals. Now with a bit of rethinking and reworking of the goals I had put in place I can realistically make things happen.

One of my goals for standard 1b “engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources” (ISTE, 2008) was to develop my own WebQuest from scratch. I know that could do this but just not in the time frame given. After doing research on other WebQuests that are already out there I felt that there are some great WebQuest that I can pick from to get started. I have learned that there are some great things already out there for teachers to use. I often want to do all my lessons and units on my own but I now leaning that there are is great stuff already out there for teachers to use.

As for standard 5c “evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning” (ISTE, 2008). This one has kind of been a thorn in my side. I have been working very hard to find tools and resources that support student learning. I have found many helpful tools and look forward to using them in the up coming school year. The hard part of this standard is the reflecting and sharing of what I have found. It is kind of scary because I have found that many teachers don't even know the basics of what I have found. This makes things very difficult when wanting to share the new stuff. I have had many teachers say I don't even know the first thing about technology. So now I see that this standards goals need to be adjusted to start at the very beginning.

All of this said I just need to keep working at the goals I have in place for my GAME Plan and things will start to fall into place.

  1. Allison,

Reflection can be the most beneficial part when setting goals and striving to reach them. I enjoy hearing someone else with similar issues--it lifts my spirits. I, too, have struggled with one of my goals more than the other and wondered why I was making minimal progress. I soon realized that time was an issue along with not utilizing the information and resources already created and available. I feel like this class has been one of the most difficult, but most beneficial because it is causing us to actually set goals and work toward achieving them. Keep up the good work and know that you are not the only one who feels like progression is at a slow going rate.

  2. As I was reading your post I can identify with you when you mention that you wanted to create one on your own. I guess that is the way that I have always been...I want to develop things and create things, but realizing that there is so much out there I had to stop and learn that someone might have already done it and created it better than I could.I did not have to spend time recreating something. It was hard for me. I admire you for letting yourself know that you do not have to do everything at the beginning. Knowing that there is a large amount of good resources out there is so important for teachers. A good reflective post. You got much more out of it than you might have thought.

  3. Allison, there are many online resources for lesson plans and webquests that are available, finding one that meets your need is time consuming. I admire how you want to construct a webquests on your own. I think you are moving in the right direction. I have found that it takes time and experience to meet our goals as an educator and time for our students to achieve what they need to learn.
